They used to be given as a gift to the bakufu (the shogunate government). They are also called flower design candles, famous for gorgeous coloring and delicate handwriting designed with pigments.

People in the Sekigawa area which borders Nigata prefecture have succeeded Shinaori fabrics made from Shina tree fiber. It is one of the three best fabrics in Japan.

Tsuruoka is blessed with delicious foods such as dadacha beans, moso banboo shoot and fresh seafood from the Sea of Japan. You can find many orchards and enjoy harvesting various fruits in the Kushibiki and Haguro areas.

You can eat cherries, grapes, pears and apples from summer to autumn in the Kushibiki orchards for visitors. How about enjoying a fresh fruits harvest?
